Yellow fever is a severe and potentially fatal viral disease spread by mosquitoes in tropical parts of Africa and South America. It occurs in both jungle and urban environments.
The Yellow fever vaccine certificate is mandatory, and travelers can be prevented from entering and exiting Ghana if they cannot show proof of a Yellow Fever vaccination. The certificate only becomes valid ten days after the vaccination.
The ICT4D Conference recommends checking with your medical practitioner before departure to ensure you have received the necessary vaccinations and been advised on additional requirements. Also, visit the CDC's Travelers' Heath page for Ghana.
Remember to bring hand sanitizer, sun cream with SPF 30 or above and insect repellent with at least 30% Deet.
There are private hospitals and clinics which provide emergency assistance and ambulance services.
